BJP demands probe into fake NGOs in Jammu Kashmir
BJP Chief Spokesperson Altaf Thakur has demanded a rigorous investigation into more than 16,000 allegedly fake NGOs operating in Jammu and Kashmir for decades, claiming that many of them are directly or indirectly involved in funding terrorism in the region.
Altaf Thakur said these NGOs were established years ago, but so far no serious inquiry or probe has been conducted to verify their credibility and functioning. He pointed out that as per official records, only 239 NGOs are registered with the government and administration, which raises serious questions about the remaining organisations.
He further questioned how thousands of unregistered NGOs are receiving funds from abroad and other sources without proper scrutiny.
Calling the issue extremely serious, Altaf Thakur said it is the responsibility of the administration and police to conduct a thorough and time-bound investigation and take strict action against those found involved in unlawful activities.
